Developing a spatial analogue of the reliable digit span.

چکیده
It is recommended that performance validity be assessed in all neuropsychological cases involving external incentive. The present study sought to develop an embedded performance validity measure based on the Spatial Span task of the Wechsler Memory Scale-III in a sample of litigating persistent postconcussion complainants. The Reliable Spatial Span (RSS) calculation had specificity, sensitivity, and predictive power values within the range of other embedded measures. This finding suggests that RSS is able to distinguish between persistent postconcussion complainants demonstrating valid and invalid performance. Other calculations involving Spatial Span scores had lower classification accuracy. Reliable Digit Span (RDS) classification accuracy within the present sample was lower than that of previous research, as well as of RSS. Potential reasons for lack of RDS replication are discussed, along with the potential use of RSS as an embedded validity performance indicator.

The paced auditory serial addition test for working memory assessment: Psychometric properties
Background: The paced auditory serial addition test (PASAT) was primarily developed to assess the effects of traumatic brain injury on cognitive functioning. Working memory (WM) is one of the most important aspects of cognitive function, and WM impairment is one of the clinically remarkable signs of aphasia. To develop the Persian version of PASAT, an initial version was used in individuals wit...
متن کاملDigit span age scaled score in middle-aged military veterans: is it more closely associated with TOMM failure than reliable digit span?
The relative usefulness of two digit span (DS) variables in detecting negative response bias, as defined by below cut-off performance on the Test of Memory Malingering (TOMM), was examined among primarily middle-aged military veteran outpatients who were judged clinically to be at increased risk for displaying negative response bias on cognitive testing. Digit span variables included DS Age Sca...
متن کاملAn improved spatial span test of visuospatial memory.
In the widely used Corsi Block Test and Wechsler Spatial Span Tests, participants must reproduce sequences of blocks in the order touched by the examiner until two trials are missed at the same sequence length. The examiner records either the maximum number of blocks correctly reported or the total number of correct lists. Here, we describe a computerized spatial span test (C-SST) that uses psy...
متن کاملRunning Head: FORWARD & BACKWARD DIGIT SPAN IN SLD The Version of Scholarly Record of this Article is published in JOURNAL OF CLINICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL NEUROPSYCHOLOGY
This study examined performance in the forward and backward digit span task of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children–Fourth Edition (WISC-IV) in a large group of children with specific learning disorder (SLD) as compared with a group of typically developing children matched for age and sex. Our results further support the hypothesis that the intellectual difficulties of children with SLD...
متن کاملComparison of Effectiveness of Motor-Working Memory Training and Perceptual-Motor Exercises on Digit Span and Letter–Number Sequencing in Educable Children with Intellectual Disabilities
Background and Objective: Appropriate programs should be provided to improve the function of memory, learning, and the effects of processing efficiency in the daily life of children with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of motor-working memory training and perceptual-motor exercises on digit span and letter-number sequencing in educable ...
